Thursday’s Messages by Rev. Mary and Rev. Krista Elizabeth Winn
Parkview COVID-19 Posting #6
Hello Parkview members and all readers,
Rev. Krista Elizabeth Winn grew up at Parkview United Church, and as her Mom tells us, “she gave her heart to Jesus at Camp Bimini,” one of our United Church’s camps just outside Stratford. As an adult, Krista felt called to go into ministry. She now currently serves as a minister at Cole Harbour Woodside United Church in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia.
Krista sent the following message which she gives permission to share, along with the beautiful image of Jesus cradling us all in His care. She says hello to all her friends and our Parkview congregation. Her words today offer us hope and a restful peace. Thank you, Krista!
You leave us with the thought: what lullaby is Jesus softly singing to each of us?
Love & best wishes to all, keep safe and keep well,
Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will rejoice over you with singing.”
Does anyone else remember the days (and nights) of trying to comfort an upset baby? Sometimes a baby cries because it has a need to which one must attend. But then there are times when the wee one is just distraught. They cry and the crying just seems to work them up to cry even more. At first they seem inconsolable, but a persistent parent will hold and rock and cuddle the little one with a warm embrace, and even a sweetly sung lullaby. Then that amazing moment happens when they give in to rest and relax.
What a beautiful picture that our Heavenly Parent knows how to settle our upset with love and singing, too. Can you surrender to peace and trust of God a little more by embracing that picture of being quieted in love?
There are many things we cannot control in these very different and difficult days of social distancing and avoiding others. Sometimes it seems we can’t even control our reactions. We logically know we need to stay calm, but worry, anxiety and distress seem to sneak in on us. If you are feeling upset or emotionally dysregulated, take hold of that image of God quieting you in love and singing with joy over you. Embrace the truth of God’s tender love and care. Rest in the arms of the Mighty One who saves and rejoices over you with gladness.
I don’t know what exactly the beautiful song God is singing over you is, but the last few days I have been listening and re-listening to a worship song that sings the blessing of Numbers 6:24-26. If you are able, click the link and let this song wash over you and calm you with its blessing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0paOY5y4hoI
