I think we all need cheering up! And encouragement! And a pat on the back telling ourselves – well done, we’re doing great, we’re hanging in there, we’re doing what we’re told, we’re honouring the COVID -19 rules and regulations, and we’re doing our best! That being said, I’m reminded of scripture which praises a joyful attitude and a merry heart:
“A merry heart doeth good to a medicine,” (Proverbs 17: 22), which can translate as “A cheerful heart is a good medicine,” or “A glad heart helps and heals.” And isn’t it the truth?
To be happy is to do good to ourselves and others. A medicine will do far more good with a happy disposition rather than a pessimistic one. It is a medical fact that those who laugh most live longer! A good hearty laugh expands the lungs, we get more oxygen into our bloodstream, and we’re healthier for it! And don’t you find that a sense of humour with a good laugh helps to stop an argument mid-stream or even prevent one from happening?
Laughter and a merry heart go hand-in-hand with the worship of God. “But may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful,” Psalm 68: 3. “A happy heart makes the face cheerful,” and “A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones,” Proverbs 15: 13, 30. And finally: “Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live,” 1 Thessalonians 5: 16 – 18, The Message Translation.
So, to cheer everybody up, to give us all a laugh, to be thankful to God that we live in our beautiful country of Canada, and thankful for all our blessings, despite COVID -19, here’s a great video to watch and it is guaranteed to make you smile!
