I’ve been thinking a lot about miracles over this past week. Ever since I told my story a week ago, posted last Friday, about my dinner knife restored to me! And I thought – miracles are a very important message! They incorporate the power of God and the mysterious, miraculous intervention of God! How wonderful is that? And that got me thinking: what messages do I want to leave with folks? What is important? What lessons or teachings of Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit do I want to highlight? As you know, I am retiring the end of June. I have only a few weeks left. And two themes came to my mind – miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit. There are so many other important messages in our Bible, too, which need attention and our devotion – love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength, love your neighbour as yourself, trust in God, believe in the salvation Jesus brings, believe in the resurrected life which Jesus brings, believe in God’s forgiveness and mercy, etc., etc., etc. So many important messages! They are all crucial to living our Christian life.
However, the themes of miracles and the gifts of the Holy Spirit are the messages I want to leave with you. Believing in miracles opens yourself to God’s Spirit. And the gifts of the Holy Spirit aid you in living them. This Sunday June 14, the worship service and my sermon concentrate on miracles. And over this next week June 14 – 20, will you please open yourself to them? Ask God to reveal God’s Self to you in some way, and watch for any miraculous sign. Write it down if you think God is revealing something to you. Pray and ask for God’s intervention in some way. Pray devoutly. Pray in faith. Pray expecting something to happen. Pray believing. Jesus says: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you,” Matthew 7: 7. This verse can speak of miracles. Ask for them in faith.
And on Sunday June 21, Father’s Day, I will highlight the communion we have with our Heavenly Father and the kin-ship we share in God’s family. We will celebrate the gifts of the Holy Spirit which unite us with each other, our church, the Body of Christ, and our awesome God.
Today, let’s look at the miracle of God’s handywork in nature. Our gardens are beginning to bloom! We have so many beautiful flowers and bushes and trees with various buds, leaves, colours and patterns! Here’s a video to watch of Butchart Gardens in Victoria B.C., gardens which have been in bloom for over 100 years! Take the time to savour its beauty and enjoy!
Blessings to all, keep safe and keep well, and envelop yourself in God’s miracles!
